A word from the Mayor
Welcome to our website!
We hope you enjoy scrolling through our site to see all the valuable information that is available to you about our great city. Founded in 1790, it is located perfectly in the Upstate conviently between two big metropolitan cities and is within driving distance of the mountains and beaches. We also experience the changing of the seasons. We have a beautiful Historic Downtown District that features the Old Laurens County Courthouse located in the interior of the Public Square.
The downtown offers shopping, various restaurants, a vintage theater, and is an artist’s haven for those that appreciate history and art. In the very near future the Public Square will be home of the Laurens County Museum. This will offer another reason to study and explore our extensive history.
Our downtown garden spaces are very colorful with flowers and trees throughout the various seasons. This is a gathering place for local residents throughout the year. City Hall is located on the North corner of the Square and is always buzzing during business hours. The community room, located on the third floor is home to both the Laurens Rotary Club and the Kiwanis Club.
Main Street Laurens hosts the annual Squealin on the Square, a fall festival that offers a BBQ cook-off, various venders of arts and crafts, baked goods, an antique tractor show, and a Tractor Parade of Power. There are many other activities that take place over this two day event - fun for all ages and plenty of good food!
Our City Parks are well maintained with our central park located at 317 East Main Street. This features a kiddie park with a nine hole miniature golf course, shuffle board, and covered pavilion to host birthday parties and reunions. We also have state of the art tennis courts, little league baseball, football, and softball fields located at City Park on Brownlee Avenue between East Main Street and Exchange Drive. There are also several neighborhood parks located within the City of Laurens.
Laurens also has well trained police and fire departments. These men and women are dedicated to protecting the citizens of Laurens, as well as any visitors to our City. Our schools and churches, along with other organizations are here to make Laurens a great place to live, do business, play and work with our families.
I, along with City Council and other city employee welcome you to the City of Laurens.
