The Special Projects Department serves the city by providing safe and pleasant outdoor
recreational facilities, by maintaining the city office and shop buildings and by creating a colorful,
welcoming and fun atmosphere for the City of Laurens.

Our Mission: To provide the City of Laurens with a colorful
and pleasant ambiance as well as safe and aesthetically
pleasing city buildings, recreational facilities and parks. Not
only are we responsible for the maintenance of city-owned
grounds and buildings, but we are also responsible for new
construction of city facilities such as city buildings, public
parks and sports facilities.
The Special Projects Department excels at:
_Maintenance and grounds keeping of public parks, the amphitheater and playgrounds
_Maintenance and grounds keeping of city ball parks and tennis courts
_Colorful landscaping and grounds keeping of all city-owned property
_Maintaining the “Welcome to Laurens” signs and the landscaping around them, keeping the entryways to our city friendly, colorful and welcoming
_Maintenance of 14 reservoir ponds located in and around the city established under a grant with the U.S. Soil and Water Conservation
_Service in 1986, our work with Little River and the 14 city-maintained reservoirs provides flood control for the City Of Laurens.
_Maintenance of Little River and the river walkways that run through the city
_Construction of ball parks, tennis courts, picnic shelters and playgrounds
_Construction of any new buildings for the public parks and sports facilities (restrooms, press box, concession stands)
_Custodial maintenance of public buildings located at the parks, sports facilities and amphitheater
_Overseeing any other city new building construction or remodeling jobs on existing city-owned buildings
