The Mayor and City Council strive to serve all members of the community and to provide a quality
of life in which our citizens can have a safe, comfortable, clean environment. Our children are our
greatest assets and we work to provide them with recreational programs and areas where they
can play and strengthen both their minds, as well as their bodies. We are also dedicated to
serving our elderly citizens, who are a valuable resource to remind us of our distinguished history.
Our Historical Downtown Square area is a beautiful focal point for the essence of our city –
“Charming, Beautiful, Quaint, Historic and Welcoming.” We have all the components for Southern
Hospitality at its finest. Although our City is growing, we will never lose the “small town” values.
We are always mindful of the need to encourage our
businesses, both old and new, and to work hard to promote
our newest business - tourism. With our many state of the
art recreational venues, unique restaurants and shops, we
are poised to welcome people from nearby communities,
as well as visitors from all over the country.
Laurens City Council Members PhotoThe City of Laurens adopted the Mayor – Council form of
government in 1976. The City of Laurens is divided into six wards and elections are
non-partisan. The Mayor is elected at-large and the six Councilmembers are elected from
single-member districts. General Elections are held on the second Tuesday of November in all
even numbered years.
The Mayor is the presiding officer at Council meetings and is entitled to a vote upon any matter
coming before the council.
Regular Council Meetings are held on the third Tuesday of each month at 5:30 P.M. and are held
in Council Chambers at City Hall, which is located at 126 East Public Square, Laurens, South
Carolina, 29360. If you have a problem and wish to be put on the agenda, you will need to
register with the City Clerk before noon on the Wednesday before the Council Meeting.
